The field of counseling is crucial and rewarding. Within each area of specialization, counselors help others achieve their goals and be their best selves. It is important that counselors give themselves those same opportunities! One great way to do that is by attending conferences for counselors. There are many great professional development opportunities in the Southeast throughout 2018.
1. The American Counseling Association
The American Counseling Association Southern Region Leadership Academy will be held from January 26th to 28th at the Hampton Inn Orlando-International Airport in Orlando, FL. This event is an excellent opportunity to network with other counselors in the region, update knowledge of current counseling information and practices, and learn how to progress further in the counseling field.
2. Southern Association For Counselor Education And Supervision
The Southern Association For Counselor Education And Supervision Annual Conference is a great opportunity for both collaboration and learning. There will also be an exposition highlightingcutting-edgee counseling services and materials. This event is happening October 11th to 13th at the Hilton Resort in Myrtle Beach, NC. Those interested in displaying research or presenting special topics have until February 15th to submit proposals.
3. Georgia Southern University
Every year Georgia Souther University invites members of the counseling profession to attend the Cross-Cultural Counseling and Education Conference for Research, Action, and Change. This year’s conference will take place February 9th and 10th at the Coastal Georgia Center in Savannah, GA. The main social issues tackled will be: Identity Development (Racial, Ethnic, Gender, Sexual Orientation, and Ability), White/Male/Heterosexual Privilege, Anti-Oppression and Anti-Racism, and Cultural and Ethical Competencies in Counseling and Education.
4. American Mental Health Counselor’s Association
For those in the mental health arena of counseling, the American Mental Health Counselor’s Association will hold it’s Annual Conference from August 1st to 3rd in Orlando, FL. The purpose of the conference is to bring together mental health counseling professionals in order to discuss challenges and share ideas for solutions. It address the issues faced by professionals in general counseling, as well as in the following specializations: Children and Adolescents, Couples and Family, Developmental Disabilities, Geriatrics, Integrated Care, Practice Issues, Healthcare Reform, Military and Veterans Issues, Substance Abuse and Co-Occurring Disorders, and Trauma Assessment and Treatment.
5. American School Counselor Association
For those in the school counseling arena, the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) holds state-specific conferences throughout the year. The purpose of these events is to help school counselors come together and discuss how best to improve the educational wellbeing of students.
The Southeast is brimming with conference events for counselors in 2018! This is a great year to focus on networking with other counseling professionals and learning about the current trends in research and practice. This is the perfect time to take the next steps in the counseling career journey.
